Bryan interviews J.O. Terry, who has served under the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention as a media missionary to the Philippines beginning in 1968 and later serving as the Asia-Pacific Region media consultant until retirement in 2003. Experience with Chronological Bible Teaching in early 1988 soon led to a need for greater emphasis on teaching the Bible stories along with appropriate learning activities for nonliterate peoples. In an effort to supply this need, Terry developed a number of widely used Bible story sets and led workshops and conferences in many countries. He is convinced that Bible storying methods can be effective in winning the lost to Christ, in developing the saved in Christ, in starting new churches among the peoples of the world, and in training their oral leaders. Presently J. O. Terry serves as publisher of the Bible Storying Newsletter and the Journal of Bible Storying. He continues to teach Bible storying and shares his experience with others in the ministry. Terry has authored and co-authored several books, some of which we mention on today's show. "Telling God's Stories with Power" is a book that is about to hit the book stores any day now. It is written by a man with years of experience successfully training others to reach oral learners through Bible storytelling. The result of years of research and field testing, this book is a product of the author's own journey as he confronted the challenges of teaching the Bible in parts of the world where people are unaccustomed to a Western style of learning. Full of innovative and groundbreaking insights, this study is packed with ideas, explanations, and constructive suggestions stated in clear and simple language, easy to understand. Paul has decades of experience planting churches and equipping leaders in both Latin America and South Asia. His life work demonstrates his passion for finding effective ways to communicate the gospel across cultures. He has shown a unique ability to distill complex information into understandable methods for training leaders, church-planters and now biblical storytellers. His training in missiology, cultural anthropology and Christian communication inform this project. Links mentioned in the show:

Please do use the contact details given below to send us your audio feedback and comments. Is Bryan right when he says he might back off with radical change? Should we "ease in gently" as Yvette suggested? Or should we not bother at all with change? Will our churches die (for lack of relevance) if we do not adapt to the needs of oral learners? Will local churches cease to grow if we ignore the oral communicator majority in our meetings, preaching and worship styles? Join the discussion in our forum today! Please note: storyall is revising the way we do our shows and we have some cool ideas for future episodes, so stay subscribed to not miss any exciting new developments coming soon. One of the things we are planning to do is to "story" more about stories and our other current, so if you like a storying way of communication you will like the changes now afoot! Also we want to make it easier for you to 'talk' to us and give your feedback to the shows. We REALLY would like to hear from you, play your message on the show, get your comments, suggestions, stories, etc., etc. What would you like to hear on the show? So ... in addition to the telephone, Skype and email ... we are now introducing My Chingo. Look to the right of this piece and you will see a yellow button for My Chingo. On this page, and various other pages throughout our site (story4all) you can leave a recorded voice message by recording and clicking "Send Message" that we can receive, play on the show or respond to. Please consider interacting with us this way. We'd love to hear from you. In fact why not click the button in the right hand sidebar right now and leave us a message! Today's podcast concludes our three-part series on Orality and Cultural Christianity. This final part of the message wraps up the message and points out its implications for reaching and discipling oral learners the world over. This message is not just for those working in foreign lands or going out as missionaries, but can be easily applied in our local contexts where Jesus has placed us to minister and share His Word. The speaker, Jim Slack, an oraliy specialist and the Global Evangelism and Church Growth Consultant/Analyst in the Department of Research at the International Mission Board (IMB). He has had 25 years of missionary service in the Philippines, including church planting consultation with 18 evangelical groups throughout Asia and has done doctoral research on orality and literacy. Today is the second show in our three-part series on Orality and Cultural Christianity. This message continues to discuss how worldview effects our beliefs and vividly portrays how the Message can be garbled if we do not come to grips with cultural Christianity where it exists in us, our proclamation and practices. The speaker is Jim Slack, who is the Global Evangelism and Church Growth Consultant/Analyst in the Department of Research at the International Mission Board (IMB). He has had 25 years of missionary service in the Philippines, including church planting consultation with 18 evangelical groups throughout Asia and has done doctoral research on orality and literacy. Today's show begins a three-part series on Cultural Christianity. The message on this podcast opens up a whole pattern of thought about how worldview effects our beliefs. We expect this series to lay the foundation for future shows on the subject of worldview, and how oral (storying) methods are essential for a person's core foundations to be fully impacted with the Gospel of the Kingdom and for disciples to be made among oral learners. The book authored by Jonathan Kozol, mentioned in the show, can be obtained here: "Illiterate America". As usual please send your audio comments, feedback or suggestions to:

J.O. Terry, recently retired from the IMB has conducted over 135 Bible Storying training sessions, mostly among rural and other oral communicators in Asia. Today he tells a story from one of those sessions he gave in Bangladesh. Harold Hendrick, of the Bott Radio Network station KSIV in St Louis, Missouri, USA, interviewed, for the Encounter programme aired on 25th May 2006, Marcus Vegh of Progressive Vision and Avery Willis of the International Orality Network in a discussion relating the global need for oral communication to the remaining unreached. Today we play the first part (of three) to that interview. The clip helps introduce these valiant servants of the Lord and shows their heart that beats after the Lord of Harvest, and for the knowledge of His glory to cover the earth as the waters cover the sea. On today's show:
After listing the orality/storying events happening in various places, today's show focuses mainly on the amazing story of the Mouk from Papua New Guinea. The discussion centres round the video of that move of God, entitled "EE-TAOW! The Mouk Story". This movie is produced by NTM (New Tribes Mission) and tells the story of how a couple of ordinary church folk from North America, rejected as potential missionaries by mission boards, dared to believe God and pursue their calling to go to the ends of the earth with the Story of God. The story shows how Mark Zook and family, with the use of New Tribes Mission materials and training, impacted the animistic Mouk and saw them come to Jesus in large numbers. Get the video or DVD from the New Tribes Mission web site: here. As we said on the show, browse around and double check that you choose the correct video format or DVD region format when you go to make an order from this site. If in doubt use the other contact details on the NTM site to inquire or make your purchase. We highly recommend this movie (and its sequel, "EE-TAOW! The next chapter") as a modern day example of how chronological presentation of Bible truth is changing nations and transforming spiritually enslaved peoples into committed followers of Jesus. If you want to know how to subscribe to the story4all podcast, and have not already done so, we include a piece at the very end of today's episode to explain how you can do that.
